Being Yourself on Social Media

For this weeks blog post, I read "Quit Hiding and Start Being YOU on Social Media on SOSHABLE. In her post, Erin Ryan talks about how people these days are so hesitant about using social media and more in it to get attention/likes/retweets, etc to the point where they are not being themselves on social media, but rather portraying themselves in a way that will make he/she more likable like others. Ryan suggest that people should just be themselves and go all in when it comes to social media. The whole purpose of social media is to relate to others and express ourselves in an individualistic way. I think this is very true. I enjoy connecting with people on social media who express their own opinions and reasoning behind them, or people who post pictures/instagram activities or things they enjoy doing. Social media is nothing to hide behind, it is something we can all use to our advantage. However, on the other side I think we all still need to be aware of what we put out there because as we all know when it comes to internet and privacy, especially now with Facebook and Twitter, what we all say is out there for everyone to read (family, employers, etc,) and can be used against us in the future.
